Some preps
I found some good quality 10 litre buckets, uh that's 2.64 gallons or so I think.
Started filling them with some good quality bagged long-grain white rice, which is quite tasty. Should be able to fit 8kg of rice into each one, a total of 16kg of stored rice can last a while in a pinch, possibly 8 weeks or so, based on a 200g serving. Shelf life, I'd give it perhaps 2 years, but I'd probably cycle it over after a year (with replacements on hand). I'm sure stored properly it will last pretty much indefinately, but I prefer fresh and don't like waiting for things to break down, lose nutrients or go off. Beat 2 years worth of monetary inflation on food (rice) anyway. |
Re: Some preps
My (10) 5 gallon buckets of steam rolled oats are now three years old, time to feed the turkey and restock.
I haven't checked the my rice stocks yet ... |
